postheadericon Scheduled Maintenance

I have become aware of a few display quirks affecting several specific webpages in a few of the domains I host/manage, and I have taken corrective action to address these issues. For the most part they were simply aesthetic in nature, caused by an improperly formated html file in the custom WordPress themes specifically affecting pages with no sidebar. For people using the Internet Explorer browser, the effects were more pronounced and unfortunately actually hindered data retrieval.

I am also aware of the slow load times and periodic timeouts a few of you have been experiencing. The chart shows an example of a spike in the page(blue line) and RSS feed(orange line) load times on February 22, 2011 for the website of the Rowan Amateur Radio Society.

That particular spike, reaching just over 12 seconds generated several email timeout alerts, and often left visitors on a generic “Connection to the server was Reset” page. I saw this myself after I received those alerts. Everything seems to have settled out now, but clearly there is still an issue with the RSS feed. This may be associated with the way the pages are cached, and I will continue to look into that…but sometimes this stuff takes time.

And finally, in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday, February 27, 2011 all the websites I host, and all email services associated with them, will be taken offline for scheduled maintenance between 12:00-04:00AM EST…and hopefully not one minute longer!

My apologies for the disruption, but I am hoping this will help restore all services to peak performance. If you continue to experience any problems with any of the websites I manage after that date, please take just one minute and let me know so I can fix it, it may seem small but could help me find a bigger underlying issue. And you’d be surprised at how easy it is to miss a simple and often seemingly obvious mistake, so your input is most appreciated. Just use the Contact Form. Thank You
