WordPress recently came out with an update (ver3.1.3) that addresses several security issues. I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your sites as up to date as your hardware will allow, especially if you are using open source products like WordPress. And why not keep them up to date, it is free and involves little more then a few clicks of the mouse.

Same holds true for your plugins and widgets, keep them up to date too! And, if you customize your WordPress installation, your widgets and/or plugins, you should keep detailed notes on what changes you made because when you update that plugin chances are your modifications will be gone.

Oh, one more thing, you should make regular back ups of your whole site and make sure your database is backed up and optimized. Also it wouldn’t hurt to keep copies of all your contacts in a safe place too, don’t rely on your server, keep an extra copy…And if you are on a tight budget and utilize a shared server, all this information is even more important to you and all the other clients sharing that resource….UPDATE, BACKUP, OPTIMIZE!
